Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ¡Charla! English ("¡Charla!", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit charlaenglish.com, create an account, or use our lessons, practice tools, and AI Coach (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. Your name, email address, and a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot see your password).
- Learning activity. Lessons completed, quiz results, points, streaks, and practice activity, so your progress follows you across devices.
- AI Coach conversations. Messages you send to the AI Coach are transmitted to our AI provider to generate responses (see Section 4). Do not include sensitive personal information in practice conversations.
- Payment information. If you subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number; we receive subscription status and a customer reference.
- Communications. Anything you send us by email or through support channels.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data. IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location (city/region level derived from IP), timezone, and interactions with the Service.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 3.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide, maintain, and personalize the Service, including saving your streaks and progress
- Process subscriptions, trials, and payments, and prevent fraud and abuse
- Operate the AI Coach and improve lesson content
- Respond to support requests and send service communications (for example, billing or security notices)
- Send marketing communications where permitted, which you can opt out of at any time
- Measure, optimize, and attribute our advertising (see Section 3)
- Analyze usage to improve the Service
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
3. Cookies, Pixels, and Advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies in three categories:
- Essential. Required for the Service to function — for example, keeping you logged in and protecting your account. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics. Help us understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.
- Advertising. We advertise on third-party platforms and use their measurement technologies — including the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel and Conversions API, Google Ads and Google Analytics tags, Snap Pixel, and similar technologies from other advertising platforms. These may collect identifiers such as cookie IDs, IP address, device information, and pages visited, and may match that information against accounts you hold with those platforms to measure ad performance and show you relevant ads. These platforms act as independent data controllers of information they collect, under their own privacy policies.
Your choices: You can opt out of analytics and advertising cookies at any time via Cookie Preferences, your browser settings, and platform-level tools such as Meta Ad Preferences, Google My Ad Center, and Snapchat Ad Preferences. Industry opt-outs are available at optout.aboutads.info.
4. Service Providers and How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your name or email address. We share information with service providers that help us run the Service, only as needed for them to perform their functions:
- Anthropic — processes AI Coach messages to generate responses
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management
- Netlify — hosting, content delivery, and data storage
- Advertising and analytics platforms — as described in Section 3. Under some U.S. state laws, sharing information with advertising platforms for cross-context behavioral advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; you can opt out as described in Sections 3 and 8.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this Policy will continue to apply to previously collected information).
5. Data Retention
We retain account and progress information while your account is active. If you delete your account (available in Account settings), your profile, progress, and stored conversations reference data are permanently deleted from our systems, and any active subscription is canceled. We may retain limited records where required for legal, tax, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, signed session tokens, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and portability. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. You can update your name and password in Account settings, or contact us for other corrections.
- Deletion. You can delete your account and associated data at any time in Account settings, or by contacting us.
- Marketing opt-out. Marketing emails include an unsubscribe link; service emails (billing, security) are sent as needed to operate your account.
- Cookie and advertising opt-out. See Section 3.
- U.S. state privacy rights. Depending on your state (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, and Virginia), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising or "sale/sharing" of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Submit requests using the contact below; we will verify and respond as required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
- Global Privacy Control. Where required by law, we treat GPC browser signals as an opt-out of targeted advertising for that browser.
9. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States and intended for users in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the effective date. Material changes may also be announced by email or in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
